Campaign Story

Hello! My name is Essence & i am on year 8 of my fertility journey. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2015 after 1 year, 3 doctors & 3 months straight of dysfunctional uterine bleeding. The first doctor I went to refused to test me for PCOS, her response was i ‘just needed to lose some weight” Which of course was a punch in the gut, especially after finding out the fibroids I had were contributing to my weight gain. As i changed doctors to get a second & third opinion, i realized i was going to have to do my own research because not a lot of doctors were knowledgeable about PCOS. Polycystic ovarian syndrome is an endocrine disorder that has effects on a woman’s reproductive system, and also causes cardiac, dermatological issues. There are 3 criteria to test for when diagnosing PCOS: hyperandrogenism, ovulatory dysfunction & polycystic ovaries. You only need 2 of the before mentioned to be diagnosed, i was so special i had ALL THREE! My high levels of testosterone caused my irregular cycles, & increased body hair.

After settling on an OBG-YN who was eager to help me conceive, I was first given metformin, a medicine usually prescribed for diabetics. The off label effect of the medicine helped to regulate my cycles. Next he started me on a fertility medicine called Clomid, which is used to make you ovulate & increase the growth of mature follicles. I did about 8 rounds of Clomid, & 8 rounds of another fertility medicine called Femara. To sum it up I endured multiple attempts to conceive alternating between these 2 medicines, 2 surgeries, one of which was a myomectomy(removal of the 6 fibroids & endometriosis scarring) & 2 failed IUI’s (intrauterine insemination)

Any donation, no matter how big or small, towards my miracle would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Thank you in advance!
